Debbie and I became very close friends in our sophomore year in high school and maintained our friendship until 1973. She was fun and full of life. Best of all, we trusted each other and we spent as much time together as we could.

I attended Debbie's wedding to Pete Wasco, and once she had her first baby, Danielle, I visited with her frequently at their apartment. At first, Pete was in the Navy, so he wasn't often home. Unfortunately, Pete didn't want Debbie to have single friends, so our friendship had to go by the wayside, even though at times we would actually sneak and meet places. As many people know, her marriage to Pete didn't last. Ironically, Debbie and I both learned about controlling men through marriages that didn't work. That, my friends, was the naivety many of us had at that time.

On a good note, when I spoke with Debbie years later, after she married "Jim Buchanan" (not his real name) from Fox, she told me that she was the happiest she had been in her life and I'm so glad I heard her speak those words, because she had been through so much.

I'm not sure of the year, but Debbie died of ovarian cancer. Debbie was a beautiful person with a beautiful heart and will always live on in mine.
